7 Quick Takes (#3)

12 Oct

Below is a list of highlights from the past few weeks and some other fun stuff to come…

{1}

The latest thing that I’m really excited about is learning more about website design! I signed up for the very first month of courses offered by Ro Little of Mommy Blog Designs! The courses include Photoshop, HTML/CSS, and WordPress, and I have learned a lot so far! (She also offers courses on Blogger and other topics). I have been experiencing some frustration, though, because one of our computers refuses to download the trial version of Adobe Photoshop (or any comparable free photo editing software) and the other does not have enough free space for me to do anything productive! I have spent all week trying to fix our desktop but it looks like we are close to having to wipe the whole thing clean and start over if I ever want to be able to download anything from the internet ever again! Anyway, my husband bought another hard drive and removed tons of files from the laptop, so now I can get back to some hands-on learning… hopefully!

{2}

Another thing that I’m excited about is the fall wreath that I made (and hung on the door with an hour left to spare on the first day of autumn)! I ran across instructions for this DIY fall wreath on Blissfully Domestic. It was pretty simple to make, but did seem to take a lot of leaves. I think I used about 8 stems worth of leaves for an 18-inch wire wreath. Good thing they were half off at Michaels!

{3}

The biggest news for Catholics this week is the start of the Year of Faith. I know a lot of bloggers have been spreading the word about this newsletter from Flocknote, but if you haven’t done so yet, be sure to sign-up to get daily emails so you can Read the Catechism in a Year! It’s encouraging to know that so many others are reading the same thing at the same time!

{4}

In addition to making it through the Catechism and trying to keep up with reading Scripture daily, I have several books that I plan to read in the next year. I’m sure I will add others to this list, but here are some that I can’t wait to get started:

  • Style, Sex, & Substance by Hallie Lord
  • Surrender! by Fr. Larry Richards
  • Finding God’s Will for You by St. Francis de Sales
  • Choosing Joy by Dan Lord
  • Extreme Makeover by Teresa Tomeo

{5}

I heard about a great prayer from somebody on Twitter this week and thought I’d share it here on A Dreamer’s Wife. Check out Praying for My Husband from Head to Toe available from Renee Swope.

{6}

COMING SOON! One of the regular 7 Quick Takes participants will be featured in my Dreamer in the Spotlight series for October! Be sure to check back on the last Friday of the month to see who!

{7}

And, lastly, an inspirational verse about faith to end on…

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. -Hebrews 11:6

Anything You Want: Creating an Independent Artist Utopia

5 Oct

Have you heard of CD Baby?  This company sells independent music online and was founded by Derek Sivers in 1998 and, despite his intentions, became a multimillion dollar business.  A few months ago, I read his book Anything You Want that detailed what he learned about starting and running a business, etc.  His book is not the typical business leadership book – and I loved it! I often find myself coming back to some of the nuggets of wisdom in this short read when making plans and goals for our future, especially in regards to Adam’s music career.

Business is not about money.  It’s about making dreams come true for others and for yourself.

Starting with no money is an advantage.  You don’t need money to start helping people.

When you make a company, you make a utopia.  It’s where you design your perfect world.

I love that Adam and I can create his own “musician utopia.”  There are no “rules” that we have to follow.  There is no record label dictating his schedule and how he spends his time.  He is not confined to a specific genre and does not have to fit a certain type of mold.  Our family can still be a priority and he can write songs about his faith without being confined to the Christian music category box.

Recently, I ran across an old post at Indie Vision Music that asked people what they thought of an article written by artist Gungor on his website, titled “Why the Christian music category shouldn’t exist.”  The post brought up some intriguing points and the comments that followed were pretty interesting, as well.  I know that categories can be useful, but they can be limiting, as well.  Also, it seems odd to me to confine songs about God to a small section of the music industry… Let me know what you think!

A big part of creating our utopia is figuring out how to use Adam’s talents to help others.  I love the following quote by Aristotle.

Where your talents and the needs of the world cross, there lies your vocation.

If we focus on how Adam’s music can be used to help others, then I think we will be on the right track.  We used to be so consumed with how and when Adam could be a big enough artist to support our family, but now we’re not focused on the money aspect.  Money and fame are not motivators for Adam.  I, personally, just want Adam to be able to enjoy doing music without putting additional pressure on himself.  We are both blessed to  have jobs and be able to spend so much time with our daughters.  God has provided for us time and again financially and I know that He will continue to do so.

Also, Adam wants to be true to himself and his beliefs and sing about things that matter.  He doesn’t like how the music industry panders to a certain demographic.  Country music is a perfect example of this.  Many (superficial) singles on the radio right now have to do with trucks, dirt roads, and drinking.  What happened to the country music of 10 years ago that inspired Adam to move to Nashville? What happened to meaningful songs about love, faith, and family?  I like a fun, upbeat song as much as the next person, but seriously, where is the substance?  Even Vince Gill, Adam’s musical idol, has commented on this topic.

In addition, while social media has given artists more ways to connect to people than ever before, it also forces one to constantly be promoting and thinking of the next gimmick to get everyone’s attention.  From trying to make viral YouTube videos to coming up with a unique merchandise item to sell, it almost seems like there is more effort put into “attention-getters” than the actual music itself.

Of course, doing things on our own is more challenging and time-consuming than if we had a team of professional industry insiders to guide Adam’s musical dreams, but how much would we have to compromise?  How would our marriage endure?  Would our family suffer?  I’m so excited that Adam can release an album (yes, he’s working on a full-length album as opposed to the popular 5-song EP in this radio single-dominated market) full of whatever music he wants.  Some songs are upbeat with irresistible melodies.  Others are thought-provoking, insightful and inspiring.  We are learning how to do new things in order to be creative and professional on our tiny budget.  The freedom that we have is definitely worth the extra time.

Welcome to our utopia- where God, family, being real, and figuring out how our dreams can help others rules our ever-expanding little world!

What does your utopia look like?

7 Quick Takes (#2): Dreamer in the Spotlight Edition!

28 Sep

7 quick takes sm1 7 Quick Takes Friday (vol. 188)

Check out Jen’s and other 7 Quick Takes posts today at Conversion Diary!

Hey, Ya’ll! (I’ve lived in the south for 7 years now, so I can say that, right?!) I was having trouble narrowing down who to feature for my monthly Dreamer in the Spotlight post, so I found a solution: A mini run-down of the various people and stories that have caught my attention this month! Consider this your big dose of inspiration for the day!

{1}

Tisha UnArmed

I’m not sure if Tisha is a Christian or not, but what I do know is that this young woman is an amazing example of what can be accomplished if we make the choice to do so, even if it seems impossible. Tisha was born without arms and has recently received attention online for the YouTube videos that she has posted of her doing daily tasks, like making a sandwich with her feet. She hopes to inspire others to be more independent.

Often, we don’t have control over our circumstances, but we can control how we decide to react and deal with situations. We choose how we want to live. We constantly make decisions throughout the day that can either better ourselves or lead us away from our goals. We have the power to choose to take steps to follow our dreams, to help others, to love…

Manti Te’o

Okay, so considering I’m a huge ND fan and my husband is OBSESSED with all things Irish football, I had to include the outstanding Notre Dame linebacker, Manti Te’o. The reason that I am talking about him, though, doesn’t have as much to do with his on-field talent as it does who he is as a person. Manti seems to be a very balanced individual who has his priorities in check. This is a young man who was set on playing football at the University of Southern California and the day before signing day changed his mind to attend the University of Notre Dame after praying to God to make sure he was making the right decision. A few weeks ago, Manti’s grandmother and girlfriend passed away within two days. Due to the overwhelming support he and his family have received from Notre Dame, Manti says he is now starting to see why God had him come to South Bend.

{3}

Dave Ramsey

The Dave Ramsey Show is celebrating 20 years on-air this week! I know many people are familiar with Dave Ramsey‘s radio show, books, and financial advice. Being that he is a fellow “Nashvillian” and centers his work on biblical principles, I thought it fitting to add him to the list! He is a great example of a dreamer becoming a doer and using his gifts to help others!

~~~
{4}
Karen Pullano of Godversations
Just a couple days ago, I read Karen Pullano’s story of her family’s choice to pursue the international adoption of her son. While reading her post I was also introduced to the non-profit Down Syndrome Adoption Ministry, Reece’s Rainbow. There are many ways to be involved with Reece’s Rainbow and help children find forever families, so please check out the website!
[5}
Helen Phillips of Transformed by the Journey
I have been following Helen’s blog Transformed by the Journey for a couple months now. Earlier this week, she posted Career, Serving or Both and I loved reading the story of her career journey and her view of God’s will. I think you will, too!
{6}
40 Days for Life Participants
The 11th 40 Days for Life campaign kicked off this Wednesday and runs through November 4th. Since these campaigns started in 2007, some amazing things have happened due to the prayers and sacrifices of so many!
  • 69 abortion workers quit
  • 24 abortion facilities closed
  • Nearly 6,000 lives have been saved
Be sure to check out the 40 Days for Life website for more!
I’d love to hear your story! I know all of you bloggers and dreamers out there have some amazing “God moments” and I want to share them! I’ve been enjoying reading so many great blogs and getting familiar with the people behind each of them! Don’t be shy! Please contact me so others can be inspired and encouraged by your personal story of faith and trust in God and His will for your life! I’d love to feature guest posts in addition to interviews for my monthly Dreamer in the Spotlight series. My email is adreamerswife@yahoo.com. I can’t wait to hear from you!
The Year of Faith: Living Without Fear
21 Sep
Usually January 1st marks the annual time to contemplate goals and make resolutions, but in a few weeks many Catholics will begin a new year of sorts that will consist of challenges to learn more about the Catholic faith, grow deeper in a personal relationship with Jesus, and evangelize. The Year of Faith begins October 11, 2012 and lasts until November 24th, 2013. The Note with pastoral recommendations for the Year of Faith  from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith on the Vatican’s website details different events and opportunities for celebrating, as well as explains more about what the Year of Faith entails.
The Year of Faith is intended to contribute to a renewed conversion to the Lord Jesus and to the rediscovery of faith, so that the members of the Church will be credible and joy-filled witnesses to the Risen Lord in the world of today – capable of leading those many people who are seeking it to the “door of faith.”
I’m really excited about this upcoming Year of Faith, especially since I recently came across the idea for living “A Year Without Fear” in the book She’s Got Issues by Nicole Unice. I feel like the two “years” match up very well. In order to live without fear we must step outside our comfort zones and put our trust in God. It is a daily choice to let go of our false sense of control and say “Yes” to what God asks of us – whether big or small. The best way that we can share the true peace and joy that faith offers is through our actions and interactions with others.   I think Saint Francis of Assisi said this best.
Preach the gospel at all times — if necessary, use words.
As those who are familiar with this blog know, I am passionate about pursuing dreams and following God’s plan. The Year of Faith will be a great time to re-evaluate how we can use our God-given talents to serve others. When people see how joyful we are about what we do (because we truly enjoy doing what we love), it will speak more to convert hearts to Christ than anything we can say.  Understanding our faith should not be minimized, though, since it is the foundation for what we do and is necessary in order to explain the reason for our joy to others.
My plan for the upcoming year is to continue to look for opportunities and not use obstacles as excuses to live an “average” life. I want to continue to grow in my faith and be open to possibilities I never would have considered to be options in the past. I want to listen and respond to the Holy Spirit when He moves me to act or say something. I plan to enhance my faith by spending more time reading scripture and books about following God’s will!
How do you plan to embrace the Year of Faith?  What does living without fear look like for you?
‘Tis the Season
14 Sep
No, this is not a holiday post! Keep reading and you’ll see the reason for the title!
The past month or two, I have had so many new ideas and inspirations that I’ve been trying to keep up with in addition to working, caring for my girls, cleaning the house, grocery shopping, getting enough sleep, etc., that I find myself wondering where I’m going to find the time that I need to devote to all of these different areas. I know nobody else knows what I’m talking about, right?! Ha! I know we all wish we could scrounge up a little more time each day! I’m preaching to the choir!
Anyway, there is a chapter in the book What’s Submission Got to Do With It? by Cindy Easley that addresses how womens’ lives tend to consist of different stages. In this chapter, titled “The Power Broker,” Easley uses her interview with family advocate Janet Parshall, of Janet Parshall’s America, a nationally syndicated radio program. On page 102, Parshall states, “Women do lead lives different than men. We lead lives in seasons, and something is rich and precious and enduring in each one. In each season, God would inevitably teach me something that would be used in the following season. I don’t think God would have called me to a pro-family organization if I hadn’t had those years at home raising four kids. It would have been a hollow apologetic. I had to know the nitty-gritty of raising kids before I’d be allowed to work in public policy that would facilitate our raising kids.”
And on page 109, she also says:
Feminists say, ‘You can have it all.’ But they practice the sin of omission. You should say, ‘You can have it all-but you can’t have it all at the same time.’
I’ve been thinking about these two quotes often lately as I try to prioritize what I give my time to the best that I can. I’m trying to not get discouraged about the things I can’t get to quite yet and take things day-by-day. I know that God is teaching me things and planting seeds for his future plans for me. I love being a mother and a wife and these roles are the most important to me-they are my calling! Whatever I do needs to support these vocations. One more thing that Parshall noted in her interview with Easley regarded how she respected her husband and trusted the Lord regarding career plans and other decisions.
Everytime the path has made another turn, it has absolutely been in harmony and parallel to what God is calling [my husband] to do.
I really, really love this, because it makes me feel like what I’m doing now and the future goals that I have are even more meaningful because they are tied to Adam’s dreams and what we believe to be God’s will. When I know that what my husband and I are doing is compatible, it gives me more confidence and motivation to continue taking steps in faith!
Right now, I’m embracing the crazy/wonderful/tired-most-of-the-time/blink-and-you’ll-miss-it season of raising two young children and building dreams for our family!
What season are you in? If you’re married, how are your dreams compatible with your spouse’s?
A Little Less Talk…
7 Sep
I feel like I’ve spent so much time writing about what Adam and I have been doing that I figured it would be a nice change to show us in action. So here are some pictures of what we have been up to lately (when we’re  not working at our jobs or caring for our two daughters)… 🙂
Recording some new songs at my cousin’s home studio…
Gettin’ in shape on the treadmill… (Just to be clear, those are Adam’s legs, not mine!!)
20120905-201555.jpg
I have to make time to plan my shopping trips each week!  Saving money is good!
20120905-201606.jpg
Adam’s daily dinner consists of grilled chicken, whole grain rice, and peas or broccoli.  He usually grills out several tenderloins 1-2x/week so his meals are easy to put together.
20120905-201620.jpg
I’m pretty sure this is going to be the official Adam Shick logo!  I spent a lot of time last week working on it.  I was inspired by Adam’s guitar cables to create a custom font with his name.  I actually used a cable to see how I could shape the letters and draw them realistically.  Now I just need to get the logo up on the computer and ready for his website, business cards, t-shirts, etc.!
Have a great weekend, everyone!  Oh, and it’s my mom’s birthday today so Happy Birthday, Mom!
7 Quick Takes (#1)
7 quick takes sm1 Your 7 Quick Takes Toolkit!
I’m trying something new this week! I have seen so many bloggers who participate in the 7 Quick Takes link-up at Conversion Diary that I decided to get in on the fun myself! Let me know what you think!
{1}
The past few weeks I have been compiling a collection of craft supplies. My 3-year-old is obsessed with “cwaft” projects right now. She would use a glue stick all day long if I let her! “C” looks forward to our weekly Catholic ABC’s time. This weekend we’ll be discussing the letter “f.” I have a lot of the basic craft necessities to do all of these projects and now I just need to get some cheap plastic bins to organize this stuff! My husband is going to be building some shelves soon to store all of these items, so I can’t wait to have everything easily accessible in one place! I see many more hours on Pinterest in my future!
{2}
I love the new Over app for the iPad! The husband of a high school friend developed this app and it allows you to type text over photos. I’ve had fun creating captions on pictures of the girls! Warning: it can be addictive! I will be featuring it heavily in my post next Friday, so check back!
On Notre Dame campus Fall 2011
{3}
I just finished reading the book, The Temperament God Gave Your Kids. It was pretty insightful, but I think I’ll have to wait until the girls get a little older to see how their personalities develop more. I have glimpses of what motivates and triggers them, but I don’t think I know enough to identify their dominant personality-types yet. I do have my husband figured out, though (phlegmatic and part sanguine), but I was frustrated that I couldn’t fully identify with one main temperament. I felt that I had strong elements of 2-3 of the temperaments. I know us humans can’t be categorized in boxes, but I was hoping to gain some more revelations in to what makes me tick! I know for sure that I don’t have a sanguine temperament, though!
{4}
Okay, I just have to throw this one out there. It’s kind of a new pet peeve for me! Maybe some fellow bloggers can appreciate this… As I have been researching marketing strategies for Adam’s music, I have run across some amazing articles about sharing interesting and useful information with supporters and fans. Unfortunately, I’ve read a cliche’ that was used in several of them that I never want to hear again – “content is king.” Trust me, I get the importance of the point, but can’t people come up with something more original to say about it in their articles? It’s a little ironic that I have an issue with the content of articles about good content. Just sayin’… 🙂  I promise it hasn’t ruined my day, though!
{5}
Adam and I are implementing a “we can’t hear whining” policy. As any parent with a 3-year-old knows, this can wear you out! I read about a mom acting like she was incapable of hearing her child when he whined and soon that behavior decreased. It’s not like ignoring whining is a new idea or anything, but if Adam and I consistently stick to this, I’m hoping asking for things politely, etc. will be a more routine occurrence.
{6}
Adam’s parents are coming in town for Labor Day weekend! We’re excited to see them and I know they’ve been missing their granddaughters! I’m working on making my grocery list for meals for the weekend. I always seem to revert back to the same basic, simple recipes whenever I have company. A favorite meal that I like to prepare is White Bean Chili served with tortilla chips. I probably need to try something new one of these visits, but am often too preoccupied to devote brain power to it. If anyone has any simple, crowd-pleasing suggestions, I’m open!
{7}
Speaking of the weekend, it is Notre Dame’s first football game of the season! Go Irish! (I miss northern Indiana in the fall! There’s no place like home! At least our basement keeps us from feeling too homesick!)
August’s Dreamers in the Spotlight
24 Aug
I’m so excited to share this month’s featured dreamers! These two twenty-something sisters exemplify what this blog is about – praying for God’s guidance, dreaming big, and taking steps to follow His will and make a difference.
Catherine Pelicano, Managing Editor
Abby Pelicano, Creative Director
Abby and Catherine Pelicano are the founders of Dignitas Magazine. As stated on DignitasMagazine.com, this publication is about “embracing the dignity & beauty of Christ-centered womanhood.” Dignitas is a breath of fresh air amidst a sea of glossies that perpetuate the shallow and erroneous message that putting emphasis on our looks and exposing our bodies will lead to happiness and feeling valued. Dignitas Magazine is currently available to read for free on-line.  The first issue of Dignitas debuted in the spring of this year and the Summer 2012 issue was just posted a few weeks ago!  I had the opportunity to ask Abby and Catherine some questions about their journey and they were gracious enough to take the time to answer!
1. Catherine, you mentioned that you became interested in “human dignity and Christ-centered womanhood after attending a youth conference…”  What seed(s) did God plant in your heart that led to developing this magazine?
At that conference I was exposed to John Paul II’s Theology of the Body for the first time. What I took away from it was the understanding that men and women were created not only to complement each other, but also to bring something unique to the world. It made me think a lot about what it means to glorify God through my femininity. Another theme of the conference was becoming a part of the pro-life movement. We had a lot of discussions about the dignity of the human person and ended the conference by praying at an abortion clinic. It was a very powerful experience. These topics really struck me, and over the next few years I kept reading and writing about them. Little did I know it would become the foundation for Dignitas!
2. Abby, you share that you have a “passion for spreading the truth about the dignity of the human person…” When did you realize this passion and what seeds did God plant in your heart to pursue this mission?
It began when I started reading a book called “Captivating” by Stasi and John Eldredge. It reminded that I had inherent dignity and beauty because I was made in the image and likeness of God and I was captivated by those thoughts. Catherine and I both read the book and wanted to share this message by encouraging women to live up to our dignity in how they dress, behave, think and interact with others. I knew we had to pursue that desire when I was in a hair salon one afternoon waiting for my haircut and I absentmindedly reached for a magazine next to me, as women do. I stopped short when I saw the provocative images and headlines. None of it meshed with the dignified and inherently valuable image of women that I had been captivated by… these images and headlines were telling me that I was lacking in just about every respect. I needed this revealing “outfit”, this makeup, this weight, this provocative walk, this ability to “snag any guy I want”. There was nothing lasting, nothing encouraging, nothing healthy and wholesome and I knew that that had to change. I knew women (myself included!) needed to be presented with a positive, fun, modern, wholesome, Christian, encouraging and true alternative to secular media. It was clear from that moment on that God had a project for me to pursue, and it was to create Dignitas Magazine.
3. What was the most challenging obstacle you both faced when developing Dignitas Magazine?  How did you overcome it?
Abby: The vastness of the task itself was very intimidating! We knew we wanted it to be done well and look entirely professional so it would be taken seriously and could really compete with secular publications. Organizing all of our thoughts [for] the entire magazine from beginning to end was very time consuming and spiritually demanding.
Catherine: Pulling each issue together has been extremely challenging. Dignitas is a “labor of love” for both Abby and I right now—we’re doing all the planning, editing, design, promotional work, etc. in our spare time, and there never seems to be quite enough to get it all done. But at the same time we’ve been blessed with tons of help and support from family and friends who have volunteered their time and talents to help us get Dignitas off the ground.
4. What goals do you have for Dignitas Magazine as it continues to grow?
Catherine: Our initial dream was to get Dignitas in print. Time will tell how feasible that will be. For right now we’re just keeping our nose to the grind and staying open to whatever path God points us down.
5. What advice would you give to others about following God’s will and making a difference in the world?  Do either of you have a favorite verse or inspirational quote?
Abby: Bl. John Paul II’s words immediately come to mind: “Be not afraid! Open wide the doors to Christ!”. He has such wonderful plans for us if we open our minds and hearts to His will and if we pursue His call with courage and conviction.
Catherine: There’s a quote from St. John Neumann that’s inspired me during this whole project: “Everyone who breathes, high and low, educated and ignorant, young and old, man and woman, has a mission has a work.” We’ve all been created for a special purpose, and God has/ will give us everything we need to fulfill that vocation. Finding that vocation doesn’t have to be dramatic and difficult. It starts by simply looking at the natural talents and interests you’ve been given and finding creative ways to put them to work for God.
~
Thank you, Catherine and Abby, for your courage to take steps in faith and create something that will truly impact many women’s lives!  I look forward to seeing what God has in store for Dignitas Magazine!
Battling ‘Breaking Bad’
17 Aug
Okay, so Adam and I finally jumped on the Breaking Bad bandwagon and watched all the shows up to the current season.  While this show is entertaining and suspenseful, it is totally the opposite of my life in a lot of ways -obviously.  But the other day, I started thinking about how the lead character, Walter White, first started his slide down a very slippery slope to unethical, illegal, and selfish behavior and how it is probably similar to the way a lot of people start addictions and get into destructive and corrupt situations.  Initially, there is a rationalization of behavior and a justification that it’s only because of ‘blank’ or I need to do this because ‘blank,’ etc.    Next thing you know, this person’s addiction is at the center of his/her life and their self-control has been compromised. This person’s wants and selfish motives drive his/her behavior.  For Walter, his bleak cancer diagnosis prompted him to figure out a way to provide for his family since he thought that he would die within the next several month.  As he started down the path of cooking meth, his ego and his greed dominated his decision-making.
I read or heard somewhere a great quote that I’m probably going to butcher, but it was something to the effect of “everyday is a battle between thinking we’re God and letting God be God.”  So every choice we make, we are either going to give in to what we want or give up what we desire for God’s best purpose for our lives.  I’m sure most of us can’t relate to committing murder or selling vast amounts of methamphetamine or dealing with the Cartel, but we all face a daily battle to choose God’s will over our own and to have character and integrity even when no one is looking.  When we continuously seek God, our dreams will align with His plan for our life and we will be able to do the seemingly impossible.  Our desires will be fulfilled because they are also what God wants for us.  (“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” -Psalm 37:4)
A few months ago, I read an awesome paragraph in the book More than Ordinary: Enjoying Life with God by Doug Sherman  that addresses this perfectly:
“The absolute perfection of God’s will means every step I take to follow His leadership is a monumental trade up.  Every decision, attitude, comment, response, and sacrifice I make to please Him is vastly better for me (and everyone around me) than if I am self-led.  In every situation I face today, following His leadership is not a little better but much better.  And the consequences of going my own direction are far worse than I usually imagine.”
For those of you who watch Breaking Bad, you know how disastrous the consequences of Walter’s actions have been for his those who care about him the most, not to mention his soul.  When we make ourselves gods, we become self-focused and close ourselves off from true joy and peace.  When we surrender to God, we place our trust in him that He wants the best for us and others.  “We know that all things work for good for those that love God, who are called according to His purpose.” -Romans 8:28.
Keep listening and believing!  Have a great weekend!
5. Our youngest daughter turned 1-year-old and finally sprouted a mouthful of teeth (after 13 months without any)!
6. It has been a little over a year since I started A Dreamer’s Wife.   Two weeks ago, I made a plan to devote more time to this blog.  My goal is to post each weekend and get more involved in the blogging community.  It has been fun adding more websites to my Google Reader and WordPress Reader – so many great bloggers to follow!  I also officially registered my domain name this week, so now it is adreamerswife.com!
7.  We started the journey of Adam’s career as an independent artist!
8. I just stopped the bedtime feeding that I had been continuing for the past couple months with “little A.” One of the “girls” became a casualty to the teeth I mentioned in #5 and I decided it was finally time to put an end to this phase of mommy-hood.
9.  It has been three weeks since we discontinued cable – and I don’t mean downgraded to a lower package, I mean we don’t even have the basic channels.  (Boo to missing the Olympics!)  We do have a Netflix subscription right now, so I can’t be too dramatic about this!  It has definitely been a change, but I’ve been way more productive and focused.  I thought I was good at multitasking with the TV on, but maybe I wasn’t as good at it as I thought!  We’ll see how long this “no TV” lasts, though, because football season is about here and I don’t know if Adam will be able to cope.  (He’s already found a possible deal on a cable package…)
10. I recently started a Catholic ABC’s preschool program with “C.” Each Saturday morning we discuss the designated letter of the week, spend time singing songs, making a craft, and learning about the Bible.
“A” for Angel Craft
All of this is exciting stuff to acknowledge and celebrate.  It also causes me to think about making the most of whatever time I have left on this earth. In the past few months, I’ve become more passionate, fearless, and trusting in regards to God’s will, my talents, and my goals.  I feel that nothing is impossible.  I have no idea what the next 10 years (and beyond) holds, but I know that I’m going to be living with purpose each day!  I’m looking forward to my continued growth as a bold, joy-filled, and faith-filled individual!
What is everybody else out there celebrating?
